Report Sections
- Pipeline summary — Total value, number of deals, average deal size. Week-over-week change for each. This is the top of the report: three numbers and their direction.
- Stage distribution — Value and count by stage. Identify bottlenecks (stages with growing deal counts but flat progression). A healthy pipeline has roughly 3x more value in early stages than late stages.
- Deal velocity — Average days in each stage. Compare current quarter to last quarter. Increasing stage time is an early warning signal before it shows up in revenue misses.
- Aging analysis — Deals past their expected close date. Deals in a single stage longer than 2x the average. These are your pipeline quality risks.
- Rep breakdown — Pipeline by rep with individual coverage ratios. Highlights reps below 2x coverage (at risk) and above 5x (potential sandbagging or data quality issues).
- Wins and losses — Closed deals this week with win/loss reasons. Spot patterns: are you losing to the same competitor? The same objection?

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I generate this report?
Weekly. Send it Sunday evening or Monday morning before the sales standup. Consistency matters more than perfection. A good-enough report every Monday beats a perfect report sometimes.
What's the most important metric in a pipeline report?
Coverage ratio. It's the one number that predicts whether you'll hit the number. Below 2x, you're almost certainly going to miss. Above 4x with low conversion, you have a quality problem, not a quantity problem.
Should I automate pipeline reporting?
Absolutely. Manual pipeline reports are the #1 time sink in RevOps. Build it in your BI tool (Tableau, Looker, Power BI) or directly from CRM reports. The goal is zero manual data pulling.
