About This Role

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
  • The Manager, Pharmacy Business Operations is responsible for managing the pharmacy 340B program, pharmacy supply chain, and all financial/ business operations of the Pharmacy department. The manager is expected to independently carry out assigned responsibilities, but seeks guidance from the director and/or upper management given unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation of policy/practice or allocation of funds to resolve. Reports to the Director of Pharmacy.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plans and oversees pharmacy business operations, including but not limited to, monthly budget review, annual budgeting, pharmacy chargemaster, pharmacy product and vendor contracting, pharmacy supply chain and inventory procurement, and pharmacy revenue cycle.
  • Provides leadership to the 340B drug discount program ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Prepares and monitors the department fiscal budget ensuring compliance through monthly variance reports, contract maintenance, and annual budget cycle
  • Manages the pharmacy chargemaster and billing processes in conjunction with Finance, Information Services and other departments within the organization.
  • Provides leadership and support to pharmacy 340B team, inventory management team, and pharmacy revenue cycle specialist.
  • Serves as a member of the pharmacy leadership team and participates in rotating pharmacy leader on\-call for after\-hours leadership support
  • Leads, manages, coaches, and trains a team or department, provides guidance, support, and mentors to ensure optimal performance and productivity.
  • Oversees the recruitment, hiring, team/department orientation, performance appraisals and disciplinary actions including up to termination processes for a team or department.
  • Serves as a member of hospital task forces and committees as assigned.
  • Works collaboratively across the organization to ensure a proper workflow between departments and services.
  • Assists and supports Director of Pharmacy with special projects as assigned
  • Performs duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
  • Required Licenses and/or Certifications
  • Must possess a Virginia Pharmacist license or be eligible for licensure and obtain Virginia Pharmacist licensure within three months of hire.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited college or school of pharmacy required at the time of hire.
  • 3\+ years of directly related and progressively responsible experience in a health\-system pharmacy setting required. An equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training may be substituted as explained below:
  • ASHP\-accredited PGY\-1 Pharmacy Residency and a Master’s degree in a healthcare or business administration related field.
  • ASHP\-accredited PGY\-2 Pharmacy Residency.
  • At least one year of direct experience with health system pharmacy budget management, business operations, 340B, pharmacy supply chain, and/or pharmacy revenue cycle
  • Preferred Education and Experience
  • PGY2 in Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership
  • Formal business education, such as Bachelor’s or Master’s in Business Administration
  • Apexus 340B University Certificate (OnDemand or In\-Person)
  • Apexus 340B Advanced Operations Certificate (ACE)
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • General knowledge of health\-system business and finance processes
  • Proficiency and technical aptitude with the use of MS Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
  • Proficiency and technical aptitude with the use of Quickbooks, Axiom, and/or other financial management software
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment.
  • Robust verbal, written and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to build collegial relationships with diverse individuals.
  • Must be able to plan, supervise and establish a professional working environment within areas of responsibility.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic leader who takes initiative.
  • Possesses skills necessary to direct the actions of team members and explain hospital and department policies and procedure and communicate effectively with other professionals.
  • Ability to deescalate team member issues and/or concerns quickly and creatively to improve overall morale.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Pharmacy employees work in or near a clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Minimal or occasional exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common in a healthcare environment. Minimum adverse working conditions related to the proximity and services of the clinical healthcare services.
