About This Role

Purpose

Under the guidance of the Vice\-President, the Director of Business Operations is responsible for providing strategic oversight of comprehensive analysis and evaluation of business operations and environments to develop creative solutions and streamlining business office operations for UPMC's Center for Emergency Medicine. The Director must work closely with all UPMC business units to maintain the highest levels of quality for patient and physician satisfaction and revenue maximization in a manner that complies with standards established by UPMC and outside regulatory and accreditation agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties and job responsibilities in a manner which promotes the core values of UPMC (Quality and Safety; Dignity and Respect; Caring and Listening; Excellence and Innovation; Responsibility and Integrity) in all consumer and UPMC interactions. Responsible for strategic partnership and relationship management with all Department Leaders, and Physicians for consistency and optimization across all operations. Support CEM leaders in long\-term business and operational planning for EMS service growth, market expansion, and sustainability. Support implementation of new service lines. Coordination of Revenue Cycle administrative and business operations and executive readiness support of VP's. Manage the design and documentation of system level, operations level and end user level procedures to support business applications. Looks for ongoing ways to automate processes to gain speed and efficiency.
  • Maintains open communication with other Health Services Division directors as well as the IT support management to ensure product integration, enhancements and processes lend overall value to the Revenue Cycle. Responsible for oversight of standardized benchmarking/reporting and successful outcomes for performance KPI's. Recommends \& implements cost containment opportunities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Finance, Business, Computer Science or related field is required.
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of managing revenue cycle processes within a healthcare/hospital organization or an equivalent combination of experience and completion of the UPMC FMR program.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare, more specifically those operations directly involved with emergency services.
  • Balanced perspective to integrate UPMC's mission and values into sound business management techniques.
  • Excellent leadership, persuasive, and analytical skills.
  • Proven communication and motivational abilities for a wide array of individuals, including physicians, insurers, government payors, managed care plan administrators, and personnel at other hospitals and hospital systems.
  • Requires demonstrated abilities in problem solving, innovation, risk taking, organization design, planning, marketing, and finance.
  • Successful experience with managing process improvement projects and implementation of recommendations.
  • Requires organizational, time management, and customer service skills.
