UPMC Presbyterian is hiring a Manager, Patient Care Business Operations to oversee Presbyterian, Childrens, and Hamot Transplant Programs!

About the Position

The Manager, Patient Care Business Operations will work collaboratively with Presbyterian’s Chief Financial Operating Officer, Transplant Administrators, Division Chiefs, other physicians, and clinicians to manage, develop, and implement financial plans focused on the growth and development of clinical and academic programs for UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside and all system affiliates across the Transplant Service Line.

This individual is responsible for participating in financial decision\-making, policy development, and policy implementation for the Service Line. Accountable for the operational performance (service, quality, and financial) of the Service Line. Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and regulatory agencies as it relates to the Medicare Cost Report. Serve as the coordinator in utilization and report generation from the EPIC system. Create and manage the operating and capital budgets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a participant for the charge lag process, ensuring the business unit (BU) professional fees are entered into the EPIC systems within established timeframes. Serve as a BU resource in developing strategies to maximize reimbursement and disseminate regulatory information pertaining to changes in reimbursement and/or coding while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Under the supervision of the PUH CFO:
  • Completes transplant programs analysis using the cost management system.
  • Provide other fiscal support for PUH CFO, including but not limited to:
  • Modeling changes in CORE payment methods and their effects on each transplant facility. Work on analyzing the LDLT proposal for other facilities.
  • Develop analysis for more efficient use of APPs within Transplant.
  • Provide other general background and support to Transplant Finance as needed.
  • Act as the liaison between staff and the Vice President to ensure that the lines of communication are open and the projects/reports are prioritized and on track.
  • Conduct monthly volume and expense monitoring, variance reporting, forecasting and annual budget projections. Initiate and assist in the preparation of special forecasting projects.
  • Create and present pertinent reports that identify productivity/acuity/staffing analysis, and any other analyses necessary and responsible for projects that evaluate programs related to the Nursing Divisions.
  • Develop, revise and implement processes and procedures in order to meet overall fiscal/operational objectives. When necessary, will collaborate with various departments and applicable systems.
  • Ensure accuracy of documentation, reporting and analyses for assigned departments.
  • Manage staff to ensure that all financial reporting, expense analyses, staffing analyses and revenue cycle processes are functioning in a cost effective manner maximizing opportunities.
  • Participate as an active member of all committees as appointed, including any new initiatives task force, by preparing and presenting pertinent financial analyses.
  • Recruit, hire, counsel, mentor, conduct performance reviews and terminates staff as appropriate.
  • Work with department managers, clinicians, and staff to identify areas of cost, revenue or utilization improvement opportunities.
  • Work with staff to analyze and monitor expected outcomes by developing pertinent reports that identify productivity, utilization trends and any other analyses deemed necessary.
  • Performs in accordance with system\-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or a related field
  • 5 years of experience in a progressive analytical and financial role
  • Experience in a position that held responsibility for financial analyses, budgeting and cost accounting systems strongly preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws as they pertain to physician BU management, preferred
  • Knowledge of revenue cycle, physician billing, and contracts, preferred
