Description
The Sales Operations Manager is accountable for overseeing the internal operations of the Machine Sales Division at Puckett Machinery. The Sales Operations Manager is accountable for the management of our Sales Administrative Manager, Heavy Rents Manager, Used Equipment Manager and their teams of Sales Analyst \& Coordinators. This position oversees the administrative, analytical, and operational functions of the Machine Sales Division in support of the Outside Sales Management and their teams of Sales Representatives.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Sales Forecasting \& Market Analytics: Maintain, enhance and own the sales forecasting process for new machines. Analyze historical data, market trends, and pipeline velocity to provide executive leadership with accurate revenue and demand projections, ensuring the business can proactively plan for market shifts.
- Comprehensive Inventory Management: Oversee all aspects of inventory lifecycle management across the Machine Sales Division. This includes tracking asset age, managing stocking levels to balance supply with demand, optimizing turn rates, and ensuring the CRM/ERP systems reflect accurate data for real\-time asset availability.
- Financial Statement Oversight: Tightly manage the division’s financial statements, departmental budgets, and profit\-and\-loss (P\&L) variables. Monitor gross margins, analyze variances, control operational expenses, and audit quote to actual profitability across new sales, used sales, and rental transactions.
- Rental Fleet Asset Management: Assist the Heavy Rents Manager to maximize the lifecycle value and return on investment (ROI) of the rental fleet. Monitor key utilization metrics, strategically manage fleet retirement and disposal, and collaborate with the service department to minimize downtime and optimize maintenance schedules.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Development: Design, document, and implement robust standard operating procedures to govern the department's internal workflows. Standardize as much as possible to ensure scalable, repeatable, and compliant operations.
- Vendor Relationship Management: Serve as the primary operational contact for manufacturers (primarily Caterpillar) and third\-party logistics partners. This includes managing operational processes, providing standard results and reports, leading monthly meetings, coordinating schedules, etc.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5–7\+ years managing internal operations , financial oversight, and inventory systems (experience in dealership, heavy equipment, automotive, or industrial rental industries is highly preferred).
- Education: High school diploma plus 6\-8 years dedicated experience in business\-to\-business inside sales or operations required . Bachelor’s level degree in business, marketing, engineering, finance plus minimum 3\-5 years dedicated business operations experience preferred .
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, PowerBI), CRM platforms (Salesforce.com), and financial reporting tools.
- Core Competencies: P\&L management, asset optimization, process mapping, and data\-driven decision\-making.
- Must have and maintain a driving record (MVR) which adheres to the company’s motor vehicle policy standards.
- Refined customer relations, written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal communication skills.
- A refined “hands on” leadership style which is motivating and optimizes team effectiveness.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff and management and mentor those who report through the position.
- Ability to resolve customer service conflicts with professionalism and consistent application of company policy.
- Ability to multi\-task, prioritize workload, and effectively delegate in a fast\-paced, detail and deadline\-oriented environment.
